I’ve been looking back, at the amazing journey, of crochet design I have had this year.
It all started in January with my 1st ever published design, Lotus Pavilions. Free pattern.
In February I designed Spiro Star, not in my dizziest daydreams could I have imagined how many thousands of times this pattern would be made by so many people all over the world, and when it was nominated as a Judges’ Nominee for Best Afghan Block Design in The Crochet Awards!, I was, to say the least, blown away.
Spiro Star has been included in a few crochet-a-long projects this year as well. Free pattern.
I love wearing ponchos, they are cosy and warm, and so easy to wear.
Until now I had always made the traditional all in one type of poncho. But the idea of being able to use squares struck me and so along came the 4 Square Poncho. Free pattern.
Next I started to get a bit bolder, and started to work on some bigger designs.
The first was Radiance, this was a commissioned design for Willow Yarns in the USA. The pattern will be released by them spring 2016.. so not long to wait now!
I decided to keep my prototype smaller and backed it and mounted it on a rustic frame, I love the fiery colours and as it was inspired by the solar eclipse, it has a really warming feel to it.
I have been amazed at the friendships and love shared by the crochet community, from other designers, beginners and experienced hookers.
So my next project reflected exactly that…… the Heart of Friendship.
This was my first paid pattern, and I have loved seeing all the different colours people have used in their blankets.
Then a few smaller projects came along as I started to work on a design that, I know, many of you will join in making next year…
I just love Mandalas, I often make crystal grids, which are a form of mandala. I use mandalas as a meditation tool and have many of them at home.
So the Bolster Mandala was first to come along.
Followed by the central square for the Bloomin’ Blanket, the Bloomin’ Mandala, and then the rest of the Bloomin’ Blanket took shape. Inspired by wild flowers from the beautiful countryside where I live and happy memories from childhood. This was my second paid pattern.
For the next four months I had to keep secret the design I am so proud of, I can’t tell you how hard it has been, and still is, to not share this with you all.
I am going to say here that I am honoured to have been asked to design a CAL for the CCC group on facebook and I am eternally grateful to my two amazing testers Kaye Crone and Terena Todd, we have laughed, and screamed through our frustrations but I know their hard work will be greatly appreciated by you all next year.
Finally I have already started on a new design for next year, I will share progress photos as I go 🙂
And I am hoping for one more free pattern/tutorial before the end of the year…. I am nearly done with it, just a few more photos and it will be ready 🙂
I hope you have had an amazing year, with lots of lovely projects to show for all your hard work.
I wish you Love, Gratitude and Joy in 2016.
