Spiro Star was the second square I ever published as a pattern. It is also the square/design that gave me the confidence to become a designer.
Spiro Star was also nominated for an award in The Crochet Awards 2015, picked by the judges, wow what an honour!
In the same awards my design Heart of Friendship was nominated by fans, and I cannot tell you what that meant to me as a new designer.
The memory of hours spent as a child with my spirograph set is what inspired this design.
Spiro Star is available as a FREE pdf download in

I was thrilled when Esther asked if she could include Spiro Star in her Nuts About Squares Cal. And I can’t wait to see all the gorgeous colour combinations everyone makes.
If you are doing the Nuts About Squares cal, then you will end round 16 with 40 stitches per side, so you will need to make round 17 with corners of (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) to bring your final stitch count to 44 stitches per side to match all the other squares.
I also used this square to create my 4 Square Poncho.
Spiro star has been used in a few cals now, and I am thrilled and amazed that so many people love this square.
There are three different options for the final round of the square, here is option 2.
The most important tip I can give is to make sure the front post triple trebles in round 10 are not too tight, and also the front post trebles in round 12. If you make them too tight it will pull the square out of shape. So add an extra yarn over if you need to.
I also recommend blocking your squares before you join them.
