I just love wearing ponchos.

They go so well with jeans and boots, and are perfect for sunny autumn or winter days, or any day you are in a hurry and want to just, quickly, throw something pretty on.

Available to purchase in US or UK terms.

The Puffy Poncho is gorgeously warm and thick, and there is a pair of fingerless mitts to match.

As I was designing this, I played around with different ideas for the puff stitches, and as a result, I have made two new video tutorials.

The first covers basic puff stitch and also, Chunky Puff Stitch, and Super Chunky Puff Stitch, you can find the video tutorial here.

The second video tutorial covers something I made up, although it may or may not be new I had never used it or seen it before, but it sort of made sense. 🙂
A Puff Stitch 2 Together [ps2tog] and a Puff Stitch 3 Together [ps3tog], you can find the video tutorial here.

I made my Puffy Poncho using Stylecraft Special Aran and a 5mm hook.

4 balls Teal, 4 balls Silver and 3 balls Sage.

Stylecraft yarns are available online from any of my recommended suppliers, which you can find at the bottom of this page.

Using these links earns me a very small commission, but costs you nothing

Measurements:
base of neck to bottom;          25 1/2 inches /65cm
side to side at widest point;   37 1/2 inches / 95cm

I made the mitts with the left over yarn, the palm side is plain and the back of the hand has the group of Puff Stitches, to match the poncho.

And here is a gorgeous photo of the Puffy Poncho and Mitts made by Ineke Mooijenkind.

Ineke used:
Saskia yarn from Wibra ( 8ply )
Hooksize 4mm

Just over 2 balls of each colour:
Dark Brown nr 98392
Beige nr 0076
Cream nr 0013

These are balls of 100 gr and approx 260 m / 284 yards.
In total Ineke used 675 gr, 1755 m / 1920 yards

The pattern is for one size, but using either Double Knitting yarn or chunky yarn would give you a smaller or larger poncho, as would changing hook size.

And finally here is Terena’s Puffy Poncho.

Terena chose to leave off the fringe, and here is what she used.

Woolcraft, luxury soft chunky with alpaca, and a 5mm hook.
Shade 837 Fudge – 4balls, 890 Stone – 5 balls, and 940 Flint – 5 balls.

With love and many thanks to my amazing testers
