Par Sands Shawl

Par Sands is the glorious beach I walk on most days with my little furry friend Mr J.

It can get really windy, Cornwall is exposed to the full force of the prevailing south-westerly winds that blow in from the Atlantic Ocean.

To the north is the Celtic Sea, and to the south the English Channel.

Par Beach lies at the bottom of the English Channel.

Even on dull days this is a beautiful spot.

When the sun shines it becomes quite magical as the high amount of mica in the sand makes it sparkle, as if someone has thrown glitter everywhere.

Even Mr J needs a coat sometimes, he does love to roll in the seaweed so the coat is easier to wash than he is!!

After getting blown to bits last winter, when I moved down here, I decided to make myself a lovely warm shawl/scarf to wear while walking on the beach.

I used Stylecraft Batik Swirl in the Coral Reef colourway, the shawl takes 2 of these cakes.

Batik is a Double Knit weight yarn comprised of 80% acrylic and 20% wool and it washes and wears beautifully.
Each cake has 550 meters / 601 yards and is normally worked with a 4mm G hook.

You will need a total of 1100 meters / 1202 yards minimum to complete the Par Sands Shawl.

Finished size: 178 x 84 cm/70 x 33 inches.

Should you wish to wish to make your Par Sands Shawl larger you can either add a few more repeats of the final pattern repeat (which will need more yarn), or you can use a thicker weight yarn, again if you use a thicker yarn and larger hook you will need more yarn.

Par Sands is available as a paid pdf download in

Here are the gorgeous Par Sands Shawls made by my amazing testing team.

Each of the testers has made a Ravelry project page with the details of the yarn and colours they used.

Becky extended her Par Sands shawl by adding a section of 5 repeats of the border section and then working the border section as it is written but with more repeats per row.
