The names Johnny and Jane mean gift from God, and every little baby boy or girl is indeed a gift in the lives of his or her family, a little gift to be loved and cherished.

With so many gorgeous soft and snuggly yarns available, making a baby blanket is as joyous as giving it as a gift to the precious new life that has come into your family or your friends family.

Johnny

Made from three easy to make 6 inch squares, with a flat join and very simple moss stitch border.

The squares are more masculine, geometric designs, with a very simple plain square. Easy enough for a beginner, yet interesting for the more experienced crocheter to enjoy working with.

Johnny – I used Stylecraft Bambino Dk, with a 4mm hook.
in Grey Mist, Little Boy Blue, and Sage.
Finished size – 81.5 cm/32 inches square.

Jane

Made from three easy to make 6 inch squares, with a simple whip stitch join and a pretty bead stitch and shell border.

These squares have a more floral design, with just a little more interest in the plain squares. Suitable for an adventurous beginner or more experienced crocheter.

Jane – I used Stylecraft Wondersoft Stardust Dk, with a 4.5mm hook.
In Winter White,  Petal, and Rose Bud.
Finished size – 84cm/33inches square.

Though I have made these as two separate baby blankets, all the squares can be intermixed, as Ineke has done here.

Your finished size will depend on the weight of yarn and size of hook you use.
Full details of yarn requirements are given in the pattern.
