This was one of those designs where I knew exactly what I wanted to achieve before I started.
Changing from a square to a circle and then back to a square.

If you are familiar with my work, you will know that a name always comes to me as I am designing.
This time the only word that kept going around in my mind was “Squircle”.

A word I had never heard of and one I thought I had made up, but no, it is an actual word and it is defined on Wikipedia.
A squircle is a shape intermediate between a square and a circle. There are at least two definitions of “squircle” in use, the most common of which is based on the superellipse. The word “squircle” is a portmanteau of the words “square” and “circle”.
So, their version is a square with rounded corners, but I am sticking with the name as so many of you loved the word 😊

Squircle is another addition to my large afghan squares.

With Dk yarn and a 4mm hook the finished size is 20 inches/ 51cm square.

This is perfect to mix with my other afghan squares or to use as a cushion facing.

I like to sew my cushion facings on to a readymade cotton cover, this is so easy to remove for washing. I recently wrote a post about cushion backs which gives you some other options.

Squircle would also be the perfect centre for Continuum, should you wish to turn it into a blanket.

I used Stylecraft Classique cotton dk, with a 4mm G hook.
Classique cotton is my favourite yarn for cushions as it is very hard wearing, doesn’t pill, and is colourfast when washing.

You can see the full colour range and purchase Classique cotton dk online at Woolwarehouse

I chose to use 3 colours for both of my Squircles, and the pattern has Colour numbers at the beginning of each round where there is a colour change.

Mellissa has used a gorgeous combination of bright pink, green and blue, you can find all the details on her Ravelry project page.
