Managing your Projects

Here is a little insight into how I manage my projects.
I always start with colour.
Even if I don’t know what the finished item is going to look like, I get a great feel of it from colour.
Those of you who struggle with choosing colour, this post may help you. A World of Colour.

I have a folder that I keep all my finished project notes in, and while working on projects I keep the notes in a poly pocket with the wip (work in progress).
Or if I am designing all the notes are kept on my laptop with the pattern as I am writing it.

I have made the mistake in the past of not writing down the hook size, and then realising a few rounds into the work that I am using a different size….oh the frogging!!!!

I tend to carry my projects around with me so I need a bag for each one… yes I always have more than one on the go.
Depending on the size of the project as to the size of the bag, but these Ikea bags are just about perfect for any project….. I keep saying I will yarn bomb them to make them look pretty….. but that’s for another day!

Here is the printed sheet I use. It’s simple and keeps a record of the yarn, colours etc and hook size, along with the web link for the pattern.

You can download a pdf below and print as many as you need, or copy the idea and save it to your computer or tablet to add notes as you go.

Once I am finished a project, any yarn I have left, I wind up into neat cakes, put the ball band around it and make a note of what is left.
A really neat trick is to weigh each cake, once wound, and make a note of the weight left and the meterage. For this yarn, Stylecraft Cotton Classique there is approx 184 meters to 100g so grams x 1.84 will give you the meters left.
I make a note on my project sheet of how much of each colour I have used and a total usage at the bottom.

I hope you find this helpful.
