Long Single Crochet is also known as Spike Stitch.
Another very simple and effective stitch.
A pattern will always give instructions where to insert hook, e.g. number of rounds/rows below current working round.
Here you can see long sc worked one round below, into the same stitch as the white round.
And also worked two rounds below into same stitch as silver round.
