Derowen is a Cornish girl’s name meaning “Oak”.
I have three large oak trees at the bottom of my garden and often sit and gaze at them.
The oak tree symbolizes strength, endurance, wisdom, and longevity.
The photo tutorial pdf gives you step-by-step photos so that you can clearly see what each round and repeat should look like.
Plus if you are a more visual person or a beginner to crochet there are also video tutorials in US terms that take you through step by step, with lots of handy hints and tips for working the special stitches.
There are 2 yarn packs available, one in Stylecraft Special Double knit yarn, and one in Stylecraft Naturals cotton/bamboo.
You will find the colours per round pdf in the Yarn Pack section below.
For Double Knit yarn with a 4mm G hook you will need a total of approx. 4425 meters / 4830 yards of yarn depending on the number of colours you use.
Should you wish to use an Aran/ Worsted weight yarn and a 5 mm H hook you will need approx. 25% more yarn.
Derowen can be made as a baby blanket or a full size blanket.
The pdf tells you to stop at Round 57 for baby size.
Approx. size using Double Knit yarn and a 4mm G hook – 36 inches / 91.5cm.
Approx. size using Naturals Bamboo/cotton and 3.5mm hook – 30 inches / 76 cm.
For baby size you need approx. 1408 meters/ 1536 yards Double knitting yarn. with a 4mm G hook.
